During one of Nusu Bito's many travels, known in the human kingdoms for his skill in negotiating illicit goods in the black market, he set sail to the island of Tartalia with one clear goal: to capture some of the famous giant platypuses that were often mentioned in stories and legends, and sell them for an exorbitant price. These animals, massive in size with unique abilities, were highly coveted by wealthy collectors, and Nusu knew it would be a perfect opportunity to make a fortune.
He anchored his ship on a remote shore, far from the territories inhabited by the local tribes. With his gang of smugglers by his side, he ventured into the heart of the island, avoiding the areas where the Oweeh tribes held sway. After several hours of trekking through dense and wild terrain, they arrived at a wide and deep river, where a herd of giant platypuses was hunting fish. Watching the scene unfold, Nusu and his men were thrilled to see the creatures in action, their muscular bodies diving and emerging from the water with impressive skill.
Carefully, Nusu and two of his henchmen managed to capture one of the younger platypuses. They felt they were on the verge of a huge fortune. However, their celebration was short-lived. The excitement of the capture clouded their judgment, and without considering the consequences, they started running toward the ship with the young platypus in tow. They hadn’t taken into account how fast the adult platypuses could be.
The henchman carrying the young platypus was quickly caught by an adult, who attacked with lightning speed. In the blink of an eye, the creature wrapped its massive jaw around the man’s leg, dragging him with brutal force and breaking his spine. The group, paralyzed by the horror of what had just happened, had no choice but to flee, leaving behind their fallen comrade and the platypus they had captured.
The retreat back to the ship was chaotic. The herd of platypuses relentlessly pursued them, moving with agility and ferocity. The smugglers barely managed to escape with their lives, losing both the young platypus and one of their own in the process.
As Nusu sailed away from the island, he finally realized that the platypuses of Tartalia were no ordinary animals. They were fierce creatures, only manageable by the Oweeh, who used them as mounts due to their immense strength and speed. The island itself seemed to be guarded by these beasts, and those who tried to subdue it paid a heavy price for their audacity.
Bruised and defeated, Nusu boarded his ship with the few men who remained, vowing never to set foot on that land again. Tartalia had shown him that some riches were not worth the price, and that certain territories were beyond the control of any human.
